The Infant Class provides learning experiences for infants, from 2 months – 18 months. They learn in an environment that is rich in opportunities to explore. The classroom is cheerful and inviting. Low shelves and tables make the toys and materials easily accessible. Small rugs can be unrolled on the floor to provide a place to use the many activities available.
Infants and teachers scatter around the room, engrossed in their choices. By gesture or movement, they indicate what is attractive to them. Each week some new materials are available which someone is sure to notice. There is a hum of conversation as they learn the names of colors, shapes, and objects in the room.
The teacher moves around the room pointing out a special detail or describing to others the significance of what another child is doing.
Sometime during the class, infants and teachers may share a nutritious snack. This is followed by some music or finger play, occasional time in the gym for large muscle activity, and more opportunities for the class to gather as a group. Of course there is time to rest and sleep, eat and drink. The Infant teacher is specifically trained and certified to work with very young children.
